Today I’m stumbling around in a somewhat zombie-like state. For ridiculous reasons not worth explaining, I was required to start work at 2am today; so now I’m home and not sure if I’m supposed to be sleeping or not. It’s a corporate simulation of the un-fun part of being strung out on speed, I suppose.
Although, that’s not a bad thought. For all the grey cubicle corporate bile that my employer’s offices exude, I’m pretty sure it would be totally fucking awesome if we got rid of Morning Tea Mondays and replaced them with Speedy Tuesdays. Product launches would become pieces of performance art.
As I stumbled home from work in the early hours this morning, I truly thought I was escalating to a new level of sleep deprivation when I began hallucinating that the entire cast of Sunrise was broadcasting from a nearby piece of pavement (as it later turned out, they actually were; but you try being surprised with a loud burst of David Koch when you’re so tired that you can’t remember your own name). My opinion of that show is worthy of a dedicated blog post, but I did have to turn on the telly when I returned home to confirm it was actually them.
Flicking around, I also noticed that ABC2 has kicked off their own “serious” breakfast program (although given how any ABC program can’t seem to function without gleefully cross-promoting all things ABC, I give it two weeks until the “Andrew Denton: isn’t he dreamy?” phone polls start) . They seem to be performing the entire broadcast in front of what I’m certain is the least convincing green-screen CGI newsroom I’ve ever seen. It reminded me of some sort of spaceport you’d see on Doctor Who. What made it so hilarious is that the green-screen technology just didn’t seem to cut it, so most of the time the weathergirl was ominously barking out the forecast while surrounded by an iridescent, nuclear-fallout glow.
Breakfast TV, stop confusing me when I’m in such a feeble state of mind.

I’m a nurse so quite familiar with the zombie-like state of which you speak.
I can’t even describe how surreal everything seems after working 3pm-8am and driving an hour to get home.
havent read any posts yet but i am SO happy you are back. followed this when i was a teen and um i’m faaaar from being one now. read it in high school on the other side of the world and since moved to australia. it has been bloody years.
lost track of your site but randomly googled it while up at 6 (no sleep)and found you again! yay! ramblingness!
What’s funny in high school will inevitably disappoint you as an adult, but thanks anyway :P
